A Father’s Legacy: Living as a Godly Example
June is a special time of year. School winds down, summer plans begin to unfold, and for many, it’s a time to honor the men who have shaped our lives. At Mt. Holly Baptist Church, we recognize June not just as a month to celebrate Father’s Day—but as an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a godly father.
Godly Fatherhood: More Than Just Provision
Being a godly father goes beyond providing a roof, food, and education. It’s about building a spiritual foundation for your family—living in a way that honors Christ and leads your children closer to Him.
“The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!”
– Proverbs 20:7 (ESV)
This verse reminds us that a father’s example leaves a lasting impact. Children watch and learn not just from what we say, but from how we live. Walking in integrity means being the same person in public and in private—consistent in love, discipline, grace, and truth.
Love with Patience and Purpose
The Apostle Paul offers powerful instruction to fathers:
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
– Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)
This doesn’t mean fathers must be perfect—but that we should be intentional. Gentle guidance, Spirit-led correction, and open communication help cultivate a home where faith can flourish.
Leading by Example
One of the greatest gifts a father can give his children is the example of his own relationship with the Lord.
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
– Joshua 24:15 (AMP)
Joshua’s words remain a powerful declaration today. A godly father leads not by force, but by faith—by living in a way that shows service to God is not a duty, but a joy.
Encouragement for Fathers
To every dad, grandfather, stepfather, mentor, and spiritual father reading this: your role matters. You are seen. You are valued. And you are never alone.
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
– 1 Corinthians 16:13–14 (ESV)
This call to strength is paired with a reminder to lead with love. Real strength isn’t harsh—it’s humble. It listens, protects, serves, and reflects the heart of our Heavenly Father.
A Prayer for Fathers
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the men who lead, love, and serve in their homes and communities. Strengthen them with Your wisdom and grace. Help them walk in integrity and humility. May they be bold in faith, gentle in spirit, and rooted in Your Word. Bless the fathers of Mt. Holly and beyond—may they leave a legacy that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Join us this Father’s Day!
We invite all families to worship with us on Sunday, June 15th as we honor and pray over our fathers during a special service. Let’s celebrate their faith, their sacrifice, and the love they so faithfully give.
